There may be openings on the following Boards and Commissions:
Airport Commission is composed of seven members and advises the City Council on all matters relative to the Municipal Airport and air traffic in the City area. Meetings are held at the FBO Office located at 1707 Runway Drive, usually the third Monday of every month at 6 p.m.
Board of Appeals is composed of five members to hear and decide appeals from any order, requirement, decision or determination of any officer or agency of the City issued under Chapters 660, 678, 1039, 1434, 1436, 1444, 1446, 1448, 1450, 1452 and 1486 of the ordinances. This Board will review and approve rules and regulations prepared by the Chief Building Official and oversee the administration of the examination for licenses to be issued pursuant to the ordinances of the City. This board meets as needed, usually an evening meeting. Members should meet one of the following criteria: licensed electrician, person trained in the field of engineering, licensed plumber, licensed HVAC contractor, architect, or resident. Meetings are scheduled as needed.
Health & Environment is composed of seven members. The primary function of the board is to formulate health policy and planning for the district. There are no requirements for membership on the board except residency in Middletown, Ohio; however, members are normally selected from the health or veterinary fields or from regulated businesses. Meetings are held the second Tuesday each month at 7:30 a.m.
Historic Commission is composed of eight members. The Historic Commission reviews all applications for certificates of appropriateness; reviews and makes recommendations to the City Council on proposals for designation of historic districts, proposes amendments to boundaries of existing historic districts; cooperates with property owners and City agencies and departments to develop preservation solutions and plans; makes recommendations for the listing of a historical district or site to the National Register of Historic Places. - The Historic Commission shall consist of a minimum of eight members, all residents of the City, and every attempt shall be made to include the following areas of expertise: registered architect; professional landscape architect, historian, archaeologist, or city planner; a person whose education and experience qualify him or her in building construction; a member of the Middletown Historical Society; an attorney. Meetings are held in Council Chambers the third Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. as needed.
Library Board of Trustees is composed of seven members. Established by the City Charter the Library Board is vested with the custody, control and administration, together with the erection and equipment of a free public library. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. at the different branches of the Library on a rotating basis.
Middletown Cemetery Board is composed of five members. This Board shall advise City Council on the general operation and maintenance of the Middletown Cemetery. Meetings are held at the City Building in Conference Room 2C on the third Wednesday of every other month at 5 p.m.
Park Board is composed of five members and acts as an advisory board for the operation and maintenance of public playgrounds, playfields and other recreation areas and facilities owned by the City. Meetings are held at the Rathman Building the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
City Planning Commission To be eligible for appointment to this Commission, a person must be a citizen of the U.S. and, for other than the Board of Education member, a resident of the City. The CPC consists of nine members; a member of Council, Director of Planning and a member of the Middletown City School District Board of Education. This Commission determines all questions relating to planning policy of the City, advises on all matters involving acquisition or disposal of public real estate, advises in the preparing of a budget for capital improvements and recommends the priority of acquisition of such improvements. Meetings are held in Council Chambers the second Wednesday each month at 6:30 p.m.
Board of Zoning Appeals is composed of seven members as follows: one member of City Planning Commission, one an attorney, one a registered architect or builder, and one person engaged in the real estate business. The term shall be for five years, except the City Planning Commissioner’s term shall expire at the same time as his City Planning Commission term.) Meetings are held as needed in Council Chambers the first Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
