City of Oxford issued the following announcement on Feb. 8
Let’s spread the good news from Rumpke!
Rumpke has been working hard to expand their recycling capabilities and have just made a big announcement this February! Starting now, they have the ability to recycle paper, plastic and aluminum cups!
What does this mean for you?
You can now toss those paper, plastic and aluminum cups right into your recycling bins.
How is this possible?
Paper mills will now be turning those paper cups into new paperboard and cardboard boxes. Plastic cups will become new plastic containers. Aluminum cups will be made into new aluminum cans. We love to see our discarded products become new and useful again!
The Nitty Gritty Details.
Examples of what you can add to your recycling:
- Paper and plastic cups from fast-food restaurants and cafes
- Plastic souvenir cups
- Ball brand aluminum cups
- Styrofoam and polystyrene (#6) cups
- Colored party cups like Solo brand and the like
- Ceramic and glass cups
- Coffee or Tea pods (Keurig brand or similar)
- Plastic lids on plastic cups are also accepted BUT plastic lids from paper cups are not. This is because the plastic lids that are used for paper cups are usually made from polystyrene.
- Note: if you are recycling a plastic lid that was on a plastic cup, make sure to reattach the lid before placing it in your recycling container.
- Straws and stoppers are not accepted so please make sure to remove those before recycling.
- Make sure to empty those cups before recycling and give it a quick rinse, if you can.
