An offensively dominant game on Saturday afternoon by the Miami University softball team, including four home runs, secured a 14-1 win to take the series two games to one against Ohio University. Brianna Pratt's dominant performance through the five innings secured her six strikeouts while allowing only five hits. The loss drops the Bobcats to 10-14 on the season and 1-2 in Mid-American Conference competition. The win brings the RedHawks to 14-8 on the season and 2-1 in the MAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The RedHawks got it started early in the top of the first inning on a two-run home run by Allie Cummins that also scored Karli Spaid to take a 2-0 lead.
  • On a bunt in the top of the second by Maddi Banks the runners advanced, and then Jenna Golembiewski scored on an error, making the score 3-0.
  • Kate Kobayashi then scored on a sac fly by Spaid to increase the lead to 4-0.
  • In that same inning, Holly Blaska hit a three-run home run to also score Cummins and Banks, widening the gap 7-0.
  • In the top of the third, Shelby Kunkel put up Miami's eighth run on a solo homer, getting the 8-0 lead.
  • In the top of the fourth, Blaska scored on an RBI double by Kunkel to take the lead to 9-0.
  • The RedHawks picked up another pair of runs when Kobayashi hit an RBI double that scored Kunkel and Dylan Scott. Three more scored when Kobayashi and Golembiewski crossed the plate on Maggie Murphy's home run. This gave the RedHawks a 14-0 lead.
  • The Bobcats put their first run of the day on the board on an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, making the score 14-1.
  • The deficit proved to be too much for the Bobcats and the RedHawks secured the Battle of the Bricks win 14-1.

NOTES:

  • Pratt allowed only one earned run and only one extra base hit throughout the entire game.
  • Six RedHawks had RBI.
  • Kobayashi went 2-for-2 and Kunkel went 2-for-4 at the plate.
