Thomas Hall | The Ohio House of Representatives
State Representatives Thomas Hall and Dani Isaacsohn have reintroduced a bill in Columbus aimed at providing property tax relief to older Ohio residents. The legislation is designed to help seniors, who often live on fixed incomes, manage rising property taxes.
The proposed law would allow individuals to qualify for a property tax freeze if they meet certain criteria: being 65 years of age or older, having an income that does not exceed $50,000, owning their home for at least two years, and the home's value not exceeding $500,000.
Thomas Hall stated the bill's purpose is "to ensure Ohio seniors are able to age in their homes and continue to be active participants in society." He emphasized that the bill aims to protect vulnerable Ohioans from significant increases in property taxes.
Dani Isaacsohn added that "we should never be taxing seniors out of their homes." He highlighted the importance of recognizing the challenges faced by seniors and offering financial relief as a means to make Ohio a more inclusive place for aging.
The representatives pointed out that recent hikes in property taxes across many Ohio counties prompted this legislative action. The bill is currently awaiting assignment of a number and House committee review.
