Warren Davidson, a U.S. Congressman representing Ohio’s 8th district since 2016, recently posted a series of statements on his social media account reflecting on religious freedom in America and local governance issues in Cincinnati.
On August 26, 2025, Davidson wrote: "What is an American? A firm foundation abandoned long ago…
America was never exclusively Christian. Roger Williams defended religious freedom in Rhode Island at its founding. Nevertheless, the Christian faith flourished here.
The same choice confronts us: repent or perish."
Later that day, he expanded on this theme by addressing the nuances of religious freedom during America's founding era. On August 26, 2025, Davidson stated: "In America's founding, religious freedom largely meant variances among Christians. Maryland was Catholic, Massachusetts Puritan, Pennsylvania Quaker, etc. Many states had Christian religious tests for political officeholders. The 1st Amendment avoided dispute resolution... as had"
Shifting focus to local government issues in Cincinnati later that afternoon, Davidson commented: "Cincinnati's Mayor, council, and leadership need to be replaced. Cincinnati's government doesn't need new standards, it needs new people." (August 26, 2025).
Davidson has served in Congress since succeeding John Boehner in 2016 and previously held a position on the Concord Township Board of Trustees from 2004 to 2005. Born in Sidney, Ohio in 1970 and currently residing in Troy at age 53, Davidson frequently comments on national values and regional governance issues as part of his public service.
