Rep. Warren Davidson Introduces The Home Affordability for Americans CRA

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) introduced the Home Affordability for Americans CRA, a House Joint Resolution, alongside 38 other House colleagues today. This legislation seeks to repeal the Biden Administration's mandate that new homes adhere to an international green energy standard.

“'Bidenomics' is killing Americans’ homeownership dreams,” said Rep. Davidson (R-OH). "The Biden Administration’s green energy mandate would raise new home prices by $31,000. At the same time, home prices are at a record high, mortgage rates are at a 20-year high, and home affordability has never been lower. Congress must put an end to this unnecessary green energy mandate."

Background:

On April 26th of 2024, The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in concert with USDA promulgated a final decision regarding new energy standard requirements for federally backed financing.

The final determination will require all HUD and USDA financed single-family home construction be built to the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).

It also requires HUD-financed multifamily building construction be built to the same IECC code or ASHRAE standard.
